Today is National Dog Day. If you had told me three years ago that I would be celebrating, I would have said, “You’re crazy.” (In case Emily is reading, “UR cra cra.”)
But here I am this morning, trying to read the news on my iPad, with a puddle of dog in my lap.
Tucker is 19 pounds of pure love that came into our lives almost three years ago. I can’t imagine a day without him. He is so easy to love. He asks so little of us. A fascinating study suggests that when a dog gazes into our eyes, his or her oxytocin levels increase and so does ours. Oxytocin, a feel-good hormone produced in the brain, is associated with nurturing and attachment. Oh, I am attached all right!
Tucker and I spent time today riding around the yard on our Cricket scooter. Tucker loves to ride the Cricket. We took our time and stopped in many places around this little acre.
I hope you have a dog in your life. If not, boost your oxytocin level and adopt a dog. There are so many that need loving homes and eyes to gaze on.
