If you have ever eaten at Red Lobster you’ll know what I’m talking about. Cheddar. Bay. Biscuits.
From the moment they put the basket of biscuits on the table, until the moment you walk out the door with your dinner in a doggy bag because you were too full of biscuits to eat another bite, it is all about the biscuits. When the supply of Cheddar Bay Biscuits in the basket gets down to the last one, you can feel the tension. Your dining companions start to pick up their knives and forks as if ready to eat, but they are not getting ready to eat. They getting ready to take action against the diner who dares to take that last biscuit. Proper etiquette for eating at Red Lobster calls for leaving the last biscuit in the basket while making eye contact with every server who goes by, until one of them offers more biscuits. You know I’m right.
Since the inception of the worldwide web, people have tried and failed to replicate and share the recipe for Cheddar Bay Biscuits. I have tried many of them and can tell you that none lived up to the real thing. Some were good, some horrible, but none were just right. Until now. I recently found Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix in the grocery store!
I bought two boxes, planning to make them when my son Mark and his family visited. I forgot to make them, so I kept one box and sent one home for Mark to test and review. He is the cook in his family. Unlike me, Mark is a man of few words. Here is his review:
“Red Lobster Biscuits kicked up a notch!! Added two tablespoons of canned diced green chilies! They were the bomb!”

I thought that the biscuits were very good, almost as good as the real thing. They are simple to make and can be on the table in just a few minutes. I thought the seasoning for the herb butter was too salty and the directions called for too much butter to be melted just for brushing on the top. Use half the amount of butter and about a fourth of the seasoning packet to start. I loved the texture of the biscuits, soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. I may try adding the green chilies next time too.
I found the mix in the grocery store but I found it online at Sam’s Club, Amazon, and Walmart in 3-packs.
I will be making these again!
