I knew this was going to be a tough review when I spotted La Salamandra’s Dulce de Leche Milk Caramel in the grocery store. I read online that it is the most expensive brand and the best available at this time. I didn’t find it too pricey at $7.99. It is not something I plan to buy regularly but I decided to buy a jar for a product review. I know. I know.
There is a recipe on the web for re-creating this sauce by boiling cans of sweetened condensed milk. I plan to try that and see how close it comes to the real deal. Stay tuned for that update. In the meantime here is my review of La Salamandra’s Dulce de Leche Milk Caramel.
Spooned out of the jar, this sauce is very thick; too thick to pour. I wanted to try it over vanilla ice cream so I heated a small amount for 30 seconds in the microwave in a small dish. It was the perfect consistency for pouring.
I served the caramel over vanilla bean ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry. It was divine. Michael is threatening to eat the rest of it right out of the jar with a spoon. I hid it in the back of my jumbled, overflowing fridge for safekeeping. The caramel is so smooth and creamy and sweet. A little goes a long way. I will definitely give this product 5 stars.
Please check back for my update when I try to recreate this heavenly milk caramel from Argentina.
