I was reading The Pioneer Woman website this morning. Blogger, Ree Drummond posted a recipe for quiche, but she cautions not to serve it to men. Her man is a cowboy and apparently cowboys never eat quiche. So that got me thinking during my drive up the hill to Dave’s Hay Barn. “What,” I wondered, “is the problem with quiche that makes it an unmanly dish?” I decided it was probably the ingredients that normally go into a quiche; like spinach, artichoke hearts, leeks, fancy cheese, asparagus, herbs and nutmeg. Not manly ingredients.
So, while I was driving back down the hill with a bale of premium orchard grass in my car, I came up with a quiche recipe, for men. I stopped by the supermaket and picked up the ingredients for my recipe. My quiche was only going to have manly stuff in it; pork chorizo, onions, corn, jack cheese, and lots of it. There would be NO green stuff in my manly quiche, until I spotted the big bunches of cilantro on sale for seventy nine cents. OK, my manly quiche will only have one green thing in it. I also bought a pound of ground beef and hamburger buns so I could make my manly man a burger if he wouldn’t eat the quiche.
I am proud to say, as I type this, that no burgers were cooked in my kitchen tonight. Please check out the latest entry in My Recipes. Don’t look for a quiche recipe.
Here’s my manly man eating “Cheesy Chorizo Pie.” Are you kidding me, real men don’t eat quiche!
