I was shopping for groceries today when I turned around and spotted a product I don’t recall having seen before. I have radar for spotting new products, so I am not sure how I missed these beautiful bottles of shiny sauces and salsas. Then I saw the name, Kranston and Foley. OMG, John and Karen Foley, I know these people. I just threw them out of my shop last week! 🙂 Not really. We worked together on a project when they were opening a Tasting Room in Nevada City, CA. and they still stop by to harass me.
So, I picked up a jar of marinara sauce for making lasagna later in the week, but what really caught my eye was the Organic Orange Chile Grill Sauce. The word “chile” will always get my attention, but add “orange” and I am in! I grabbed a jar, then headed to the seafood department for jumbo shrimp.
I placed a pound of deveined shrimp with peels on into a bowl and poured on the Organic Orange Chile Grill Sauce. It sat for 30 minutes before I transferred it to a grill sheet for the barbecue. I preheated the gas grill to high before placing the pan on the heat. I also grilled shishito peppers that had marinated in a little olive oil with key lime pepper seasoning and granulated garlic and a hot pepper. The shishitos got a nice char on the hot grill and the seasoning was perfect. I poured extra grill sauce on the shrimp as it caramelized from the heat of the grill. I added a few slices of fresh orange and grilled it right along with the shrimp for extra orange flavor.
When the shrimp was cooked through and some pieces beautifully charred, I removed the pan from the grill and plated it up for dinner. Michael had no interest in the peppers but he LOVED the shrimp. Not a fan of hot and spicy food, Michael found the heat level of the sauce to be good. It sneaked up a bit at the end, but was not overpowering. Michael suggested we try it on chicken next. He really never does that when the bottle says “chile.”
I garnished the plates with fresh orange wedges and cilantro. It was a slightly sweet, slightly spicy delicious dinner that we will be eating again.
You can buy Kranston and Foley on Amazon. You can read all about John and Karen Foley oh their website and order products from all the food artisans that make up the Purveyor’s Pantry. I want to order it all!
