Friday gave us the snow I have hoped for. It came in Friday afternoon and snowed until mid day Saturday. We got several inches. I was so worried about the emus. Everyone else is smart enough to go into a shelter except the emus. I know I needn’t worry as their feathers are fairly water repellant and form a thick coat to protect their bodies from heat and cold. Still, they are my babies and I worried. As the snow built up Friday night I continued to worry. I finally grabbed a flashlight, put on my muckluks and coat and headed out to check on them. A quick peek with the flashlight in one of the chicken runs really heightened my anxiety.
I couldn’t see Chica and Louis and assumed they were safe in the shelter. Loca was in the shelter with the goats but she followed me into the pasture to look for Stuart.
I found Stuart snuggled down in a corner, sound asleep covered in snow. He woke up when I shined the flashlight on him but quickly lowered his head and went back to sleep. I was still worried but, by this time, cold enough to return to the house and hope for the best.
I went out at first light and everyone was fine. They were out and about, like it was just another sunny day.
Our morning news program, Good Day Sacramento asked viewers to email snow pictures to them and I sent the one of Louis in the snow. Guess what? They closed the show with it!
Here is video from the last couple of days. Enjoy!
