This is not the first product I have tried in this line. A few weeks ago I tried the Guacamole Mix with tomatillos, green chile, and cilantro. It was really good, so when I saw the Taco Skillet Sauce I had to try it. The Frontera products feature recipes from chef Rick Bayless.
Of this sauce, Frontera says “Amp up your tacos by adding fresh flavor. All it takes is a pouch of Frontera Taco Skillet Sauce warmed with one pound of browned meat or chicken.” The packaging is nice. The graphics are sharp and simple and the photo looks much the same as the finished dish. I like the asemetrical top on the package. At first I thought it got cut by box cutters when the case was opened. I soon realized it was part of the design when I went digging for a straight one.
I used a pound of grass fed organic ground beef 80/20 and it worked great. You just add a chopped onion and potato if you like (never heard of that) and saute it together then add the sauce. We used corn tortillas and garnished it just as suggested with tomatoes and cilantro. I added more toppings to Michael’s but I wanted to have it as suggested. I have to say it was delicious. It doesn’t taste or look like a pre-made sauce. It is chunky and fragrant and the meat takes on a delicious shade of red. I will definaitely buy this again and will probably make it my go-to for tacos. My son is the cook in his family and loves Mexican food. He makes wonderful authentic Mexican food but I think these sauces would be great for weeknights when he has worked all day. I think I’ll send him some. I plan to try the other sauces soon. I feel good about rating this product 5 stars!
